Awa Yoga Studio pledges for a sustainable IBIZA

“Working toward greener, cleaner, more ecological Balearic Islands.”

Awa Yoga Studio’s vision of the future is about giving back to the community, where holding mass cleaning sessions happen on the island’s beaches and beauty spots.

An IBIZA that gradually moves away from plastic shopping bags and using recyclable bags instead; attracting quality tourism that respects the island; increasing advertising campaigns about Wellness Centers, Yoga and Meditation Centers and Fitness centers instead of nightclubs and bars. IBIZA has so much to offer to people coming from all walks of life, and all year round.

Yoga Teacher

Awa Djabou Baidi, a Yogi Master and retired professional athlete originally from Cameroun, who wanted to create a unique space for the ultimate Yoga experience on the White Isle.

Awa  discovered yoga at the beginning of the new millennium. She still considers herself as a student. She previously worked at a number of fitness facilities around the island where she’s been teaching yoga for about 10 years. The Awa Yoga temple was her dream, which became true when she created the concept at Hotel Rural Xereca.

“For me, Ibiza is my adoptive island, it’s where I discovered what I wanted to do with my life, and nowadays it’s the only place I feel at home after Cameroon, my homeland, where my parents and relatives live. Now, here in Ibiza, I’ve created my own family.”

Yoga Classes

The Yoga classes are available for beginners, intermediate and advanced students. The weekly classes revolve around the following Yoga styles, combining stretching techniques in some classes.

Vinyasa “Flow”

If routine is your enemy and you enjoy testing your limits, physically, vinyasa may be just right for you. Vinyasa is one of the trending contemporary styles of yoga.

Vinyasa (pronounced “vin-yah-sah”) is a Sanskrit word for a phrase that vaguely translates as “to place in a special way,” referring—in hatha yoga—to a sequence of poses. Vinyasa classes have acquired notoriety for their fluid, movement-intensive practices, transitioning from pose to pose, always with the intention of linking breath to movement.

Hatha Yoga

Typically involves a set of physical postures (yoga poses) and breathing techniques, practised more slowly and with more static posture holds than perhaps a Vinyasa flow class.

Yin yoga

A practice coming from the Taoist tradition that focuses on passive, seated postures, targeting the connective tissues in the hips, pelvis and lower spine.

Power Yoga

A “fitness-based” vinyasa practice. it provides many qualities and benefits, including building internal heat, increased stamina, strength, and flexibility, as well as stress reduction.
